Don’t wait until you’re thirsty before you dig
That line has been sitting with me since this past weekend, after hearing it echoed by a few brilliant, high-achieving people I really respect. People who are winning, but not by accident.
It struck a nerve because most people only look for change when the pressure is already on.
When money feels tight.
When work starts to feel uncertain.
When time and energy are already running low.
By then, you’re reacting, not choosing.
Digging the well early looks unexciting from the outside.
Learning new skills when things are still “fine”.
Building relationships before you need them.
Creating options while you still have choices.
No applause. No noise.
Just quiet preparation.
And later on, that preparation looks like freedom.
The people who seem “lucky” usually aren’t.
They simply started earlier, when no one was watching.
So if life feels comfortable right now, maybe that’s the signal.
Not to coast.
But to build.
What well are you digging while you’re not thirsty yet?
