Some new artwork I made ❤️🎨🥹 I may still adjust the second one’s background. I’ve been using these acrylic markers and am loving it. I have an art event next weekend and am super stoked. Also I have one more of these wood panels left. What should I make next?? #newart#birthdayart#julybirthday#art

... Read moreIt's been so much fun diving into new art projects lately, especially with acrylic markers! I'm genuinely loving how vibrant and easy they are to use. You saw my latest pieces – that quirky cupcake with the eyeball and crown, and the festive ice cream cone with a party hat – both came to life with these amazing pens. They're perfect for adding those bold pops of color and crisp details.
If you’re looking to try acrylic markers yourself, or just need some fresh drawing ideas, let me share a few things I’ve learned. One of the best things about acrylic markers is their versatility. I've been experimenting with them on wood panels, and they adhere beautifully, giving a really smooth and professional finish. But don’t limit yourself! They work wonderfully on canvas, paper, even rocks or ceramics.
For getting those bright, layered colors like the pink frosting on my cupcake or the dark blue and purple background, patience is key. Let each layer dry completely before adding the next to avoid smudging. This also helps create rich, opaque colors. If you want to blend, you can work quickly while the paint is still wet, or use a damp brush for softer transitions, though I mostly love the crisp lines they offer.
Thinking about birthday art specifically, there are so many creative avenues to explore! Beyond cupcakes and ice cream, imagine creating personalized birthday cards with hand-drawn balloons, confetti, or even a stylized birthday cake. You could try different food themes – maybe a stack of colorful donuts, or a vibrant fruit tart. For backgrounds, playing with contrasting colors, like the yellow background I used for my ice cream piece, can really make your main subject pop. You can even add subtle patterns, like the ghost-like green patterns I experimented with, to give it an extra touch of whimsy.
Finding inspiration is everywhere! Sometimes it’s a simple photo, other times it’s just doodling in a sketchbook until an idea sparks. For my cupcake, I wanted something a bit unexpected, hence the eyeball with a crown – it adds a fun, slightly spooky twist that deviates from the norm! Don't be afraid to combine unexpected elements.
And for those of you with a July birthday like mine, or just celebrating summer, consider incorporating bright, summery elements. Think sunflowers, beach scenes, or even abstract patterns in warm tones. The possibilities really are endless. I'm always looking for new challenges, and having one more wood panel left means another adventure awaits. What kind of imaginative world should I create next with my acrylic markers? I'd love to hear your suggestions!
