Here are my tips when it comes to listening to your body and setting yourself up for success!

Set intentions: Before starting your workout, set positive intentions or affirmations to guide your mindset and energy throughout the session. I like to do a little walk beforehand and remind myself during this time!

Practice gratitude: Take a moment during or after your workout to express gratitude for your body's capabilities and the opportunity to move and exercise. I like to do this post workout in the sauna!

Mindful movement: Focus on your body's sensations and movements during exercise, such as the feeling of your muscles contracting and the rhythm of your breath. Even if its as simple as a walk!

It’s not just a quick thought before you start. I find it really powerful to spend a minute or two visualizing my workout. Am I focusing on strength today? Endurance? Or simply releasing stress? My intention might be 'I will move with strength and purpose,' or 'I will listen to my body and honor its needs.' This mental prep, even during a short walk before hitting the gym, helps anchor my mind and keeps me engaged. It’s amazing how much more focused I feel when I’ve set a clear purpose for that particular session. This isn't about rigid goals; it's about guiding your energy. Then there’s *practicing gratitude*. This one felt a little cheesy at first, I admit! But now, it's non-negotiable. After a tough set, or cooling down, I take a moment to genuinely thank my body. Not for being perfect, but for showing up, for its resilience, for every muscle that worked hard. Sometimes it’s just a silent 'thank you, legs!' after a long run, or appreciating the warmth of the sauna as my muscles recover. This shift in perspective from what my body can't do to what it can do has fostered such a healthier relationship with fitness for me. It makes me want to nourish and care for my body even more. And *mindful movement*? This is where the magic truly happens. It means bringing your full attention to every rep, every step, every breath. For example, during a bicep curl (like you might see in a gym selfie!), instead of just going through the motions, I focus on the muscle contracting, the path of the weight, and syncing my breath. In yoga, it's about feeling the stretch, the stability, the balance. Even during a casual walk, I try to notice the sensation of my feet on the ground, the air on my skin, the rhythm of my steps. This isn't just about preventing injury; it's about truly experiencing the workout, making it a moving meditation. It helps me tune out distractions – from my phone to my to-do list – and just be in that moment. One thing I’ve learned is that consistency in mindfulness is key, even when motivation dips. Some days, my mind is racing, and focusing feels impossible. On those days, I don't give up. I simply acknowledge the distraction and gently guide my attention back. It's a practice, not a perfect state. By staying present and connected to my body, I've found that my workouts are not only more effective physically, but they also profoundly impact my mental well-being, leaving me feeling energized, calm, and incredibly centered. It’s truly about incorporating mindfulness into your fitness routine for a healthier, happier you, inside and out. Give it a try, and I bet you'll feel the difference too!
