Psycho II by Robert Bloch

First of all, I had NO idea that this was a trilogy. Had to find this book on eBay with how expensive Amazon was pricing it. Anyway, I LOVE Bloch’s writing style. His attention to detail, the way he is able to differentiate his characters and give them their own personalities while jumping between them is *chefs kiss*. Dare I say book two is even better than the first. Definitely recommend.

... Read moreWhen I first picked up Psycho II, I was intrigued to learn it was part of a trilogy—I had no idea before! Finding an affordable copy was a challenge since prices on platforms like Amazon were sky-high, so I resorted to eBay. Reading it, I was immediately captivated by Bloch's writing style. One thing that truly stands out is his ability to weave multiple perspectives into the story, giving each character a distinct voice and personality. This makes the narrative engaging and multi-dimensional, enhancing the suspense. If you’re a fan of horror or psychological thrillers, Psycho II offers something unique beyond just scares. Bloch’s attention to detail pulls you deep into the eerie world of Norman Bates and the chilling atmosphere of the story. The famous scene where the shower is turned on again—an unforgettable moment from the original Psycho—gets a fresh, blood-curdling twist that keeps you on edge. What I particularly enjoyed was how the sequel expands on the original plot without simply rehashing it. The story builds on the psychological complexity of the characters, exploring themes of identity, madness, and suspense with nuance. For horror readers looking for a classic but highly engaging read, Psycho II is a must. I even found myself appreciating it more than the first book in the trilogy. For anyone hesitant about diving into a trilogy, you’ll be pleased to know every book stands strong on its own but also enriches the overall narrative. Robert Bloch manages to keep the horror morbid yet intriguing. If you love stories that keep your blood running cold, this book deserves a spot on your reading list.
