Sometimes I find myself obeying God like a pet waiting for a treat...

Good behavior = reward?

Bad day = distance?

But Jesus isn’t a vending machine. He’s not just the Giver of good things—He is the Good Thing. The Treasure. The Prize.

Reflecting on scriptures like Luke 9:23 and Job 1:21 reminds us of our calling to serve selflessly. Practical steps can help reorient our hearts: daily journaling to explore our motivations, sincere prayers that ask for a heart aligned with God's will, and engaging in community discussions about faith. Embracing the truth that we are children of God—invited to partake at the King’s table—can liberate us from the mindset of being mere petitioners. Let us strive for deeper connections by focusing on God's nature instead of just His gifts. Such a shift can enrich our spiritual lives and provide the fulfillment that true faith offers.
