Autism will never stop my son

My son is 7 years old going on 8 he was diagnosed with having stage 2 autism and they told me. That he was never going to be a normal child and do normal child activities. Yet here we are in martial arts giving it his best. His teammates are also aware of his autism and they don’t treat him differently. But respect him more for stepping into the mat….. that’s my Bruce Lee #autism #fypシ゚viral

... Read moreWhile Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often presents unique challenges, it also fosters incredible strength and resilience in individuals. Many parents find that their children with autism can excel in areas where they have strong interests, such as sports, arts, or technology. In martial arts, as we've experienced, children like my son can develop discipline, focus, and social skills within a supportive environment. It's essential to create inclusive spaces that recognize and embrace neurodiversity. Teaching teammates and peers about autism helps promote understanding, acceptance, and friendship. Moreover, martial arts classes can serve as an excellent outlet for children with autism, helping them improve coordination, confidence, and emotional regulation. Resources and support networks are valuable for parents embarking on this journey with their children. Organizations often provide tools for advocating for rights and accessing services tailored to individuals with autism. With the right support and encouragement, children diagnosed with autism can achieve their goals and lead fulfilling lives.

A smiling woman with long brown hair looks at the camera. Text overlays describe her 'BEFORE MY DIAGNOSIS' state: quiet, reserved, wanting to blend in, second-guessing, poor self-worth, and lack of accommodations.
A woman with braided hair, wearing a black top and cap, stands confidently with hands on hips. Text overlays describe her 'AFTER MY DIAGNOSIS' state: speaking her truth, being authentically herself, standing behind choices, self-love, and accommodating her needs.
Why ADHD and autism diagnoses matter
I thought I was autistic for a year or so before I was formally diagnosed. And as far as ADHD goes, I was pretty sure I had it for several years before I was evaluated. So, imagine my lack of surprise when I was dual evaluated for both and it was determined that I am indeed AuDHD. But something
