Independence starts in the kitchen
I let my kids make their own meals sometimes, even if it’s messy or results in weird food combos. I used to stress about the mess or worry if they’d eat enough, but letting them cook teaches independence, creativity, and confidence. They learn how to measure, mix, and make choices. It’s not about perfection it’s about them experimenting and learning life skills early. Watching them proudly present a slightly messy snack or an unexpected sandwich reminds me that it’s okay if things aren’t perfect. Kids are capable of more than we often give them credit for, and giving them freedom to trymeven if it ends in spills is part of growing up. I want them to feel capable, not restricted. Plus, I get a little time to breathe or focus on something else while they explore. It’s messy, chaotic, and sometimes a little sticky, but it’s worth it for the confidence it builds and the memories we create.
