️⃣ Heat a large skillet to medium-high and coat it with oil. Shape 4 Pattie's and add them to the pan. Brown them on each side for 2-3 minutes and then set them aside.
️⃣ Sauté the onions in the skillet for about 3 minutes. Add the mushrooms and continue to stir as they cook for 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic and seasoning.
️⃣ Stir in the vegan butter. Then the flour. Add a small amout of the water to deglaze the pan.
️⃣ Stir in the rest of the ingredients. Bring this to a boil and then lower the heat to medium-low. Let this cook and thicken for 5 minutes.

Okay, so you're diving into making your own Vegan Salisbury Steak – amazing choice! I remember my first attempt; I was so excited but also a little worried about getting that perfect savory depth and texture. But trust me, with a few extra tips, you'll nail this classic comfort food. First off, let's talk about the 'steak' part. The recipe uses vegan ground beef, which is fantastic for mimicking that meaty texture. To ensure your patties hold their shape beautifully, especially when searing, really take the time to *press and form them firmly*. I find that chilling them for about 15-20 minutes before frying can also make a huge difference in preventing them from crumbling. And don't overcrowd your skillet! Give each patty space to brown properly, creating that delicious crust before they go into the gravy. This step is crucial for flavor development. Now, the gravy! This is where the magic truly happens. While the recipe is spot on, sometimes I like to deepen the flavor even further. If you have a splash of red wine on hand, a tablespoon added when you deglaze the pan (Step 4) can add an incredible richness. Also, don't rush the mushroom and onion sautéing process. Letting them caramelize slightly before adding the garlic really brings out their sweetness and umami, forming a fantastic base for your gravy. If your gravy seems too thin, let it simmer a little longer; if it's too thick, a splash of vegetable broth or water will loosen it right up. Remember, consistency is key for spooning it over those delicious Salisbury steaks! Wondering what to serve with your homemade Vegan Salisbury Steak? My absolute favorite pairing is creamy mashed potatoes – they soak up all that incredible gravy perfectly! Steamed green beans, roasted asparagus, or a simple side salad also make wonderful additions to complete your meal. For a heartier option, try wild rice or egg noodles. And here's a little secret: this dish often tastes even better the next day! The flavors meld and deepen overnight, making it a fantastic meal prep option. Just gently reheat on the stovetop, adding a little water or broth if the gravy has thickened too much. If you're looking to mix things up, feel free to experiment. You could try different types of mushrooms, like shiitake or oyster mushrooms, for varied textures and flavors in your gravy. For a gluten-free version, simply ensure your breadcrumbs are gluten-free and use a gluten-free flour blend for the gravy thickener. Making Vegan Salisbury Steak at home isn't just about recreating a classic; it's about enjoying a hearty, satisfying, and compassionate meal that truly warms the soul. Give it a try, and let me know how it turns out!
