You can find the recipe below or on my blog.
Ingredients
* 4 vegan bratwurst links (such as Impossible or Beyond)
* 2 tbsp vegan butter, divided
* 3/4 cup vegan beer, (half of a 12 oz bottle or can)
* 1 yellow onion, thick slices
* 1/4 tsp salt
* 1/4 tsp pepper
* 1/4 tsp dried oregano
* 1/2 tbsp brown sugar
* 1 tsp caraway seeds
* 4 buns
* Optional Toppings: sauerkraut, spicy mustard
1️⃣ Heat a medium-sized pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Add half of the vegan butter to the pan.
2️⃣ Sear the vegan brats by cooking them for 1-2 minutes on each side. Remove them from the pan for now.
3️⃣ Add the remaining butter along with the onions, salt, pepper, oregano, and brown sugar to the pan. Stir occasionally as they cook for about 3-5 minutes or until the onions start to caramelize.
4️⃣ Place the brats over the onions, pour half of a bottle of vegan beer into the pan, and sprinkle the caraway seeds over everything. Lower the heat to medium.
5️⃣ Turn them occasionally as they cook. Keep the pan at a low boil till the beer has reduced to a sauce (9-10 minutes).
6️⃣ Serve the brats on buns, top them with some of the onion sauce, and add any of your favorite toppings, such as sauerkraut and spicy mustard.

If you're new to making vegan bratwurst at home, this recipe is a great place to start. Using popular brands like Impossible or Beyond Meat ensures a satisfying texture and flavor that closely mimics traditional bratwurst. The key to enhancing the taste lies in the beer and onion sauce. Caramelizing the onions with vegan butter and brown sugar brings out a rich sweetness that balances the savory spices like oregano and caraway seeds. I've personally found that choosing a flavorful yet mild vegan beer helps deepen the umami notes without overpowering the dish. You can experiment with different varieties such as lagers or amber ales to customize the sauce. The simmering process not only reduces the beer to a luscious glaze but also allows the brats to absorb those wonderful flavors. When it comes to serving, don't hesitate to pile on your favorite toppings. Sauerkraut adds a tangy crunch and spicy mustard offers a zesty kick, both complementing the savory bratwurst perfectly. For a truly delightful meal, toast your buns lightly to add texture and warmth. This vegan bratwurst recipe is ideal for game day or casual cookouts, delivering comfort and flavor in every bite. Plus, it's quick to prepare and uses accessible ingredients, making it a fantastic option for anyone embracing plant-based eating but not willing to sacrifice traditional favorites. Give it a try, and you'll love the delicious, cruelty-free twist on this classic sausage dish!
