can we talk about how ridiculous the “standards are to be non binary”? #nonbinary #theythem #gender #trans #gay
From my personal experience and observations within the LGBTQ+ community, the idea that there are strict "standards" to be non-binary is quite misleading. Non-binary identities are incredibly diverse and do not fit into a single mold or checklist. People who identify as non-binary may use pronouns like they/them, she/her, he/him, or a mix of these, and some might even prefer neopronouns. It’s important to recognize that being non-binary is about personal understanding and expression of one’s gender, not about meeting external criteria or conforming to expected behaviors. Society often tries to categorize gender strictly into male and female, which excludes the rich spectrum of identities that non-binary people embody. This can lead to gatekeeping or undue skepticism when individuals come forward to share their identities. However, gender is a personal journey, and each person’s experience is valid on its own terms. The hashtags like #nonbinary, #theythem, #gender, #trans, and #gay, which are commonly used in social media conversations, help bring visibility to the community and educate others about the fluidity of gender. They foster a sense of belonging and support for those questioning or exploring their gender identity. It's crucial for allies and the wider public to move beyond rigid standards and listen to the voices of those within the community. In many ways, rejecting the concept of strict "standards" allows for more authentic self-expression and reduces the pressure to conform to preconceived notions. It helps build a more inclusive environment where everyone can feel safe and respected regardless of where they fall on the gender spectrum. Embracing this openness has greatly impacted my understanding and acceptance of myself and others, creating a supportive space where gender diversity is celebrated rather than policed.
