If You Just Sprained Your Ankle, You Can Start Rehab The Next Day!

4/20 Edited to

... Read moreWhen you experience an ankle sprain, it’s common to feel worried about how long recovery might take and what to do next. I found that starting rehab as early as the day after injury made a big difference in regaining mobility and avoiding stiffness. It’s important to understand that not all sprains are the same. Mild sprains, known medically as grade 1, involve small ligament tears and can usually handle gentle movement early on. However, more serious sprains require more cautious rehab protocols. In my experience, following these steps helped: 1. Pain assessment and protection: Use taping or a brace to support the ankle during daily activities. This helped reduce pain and provided confidence to move without fear. 2. Gentle range of motion exercises: Starting with small, controlled movements helped prevent stiffness. I did light calf stretches and ankle lifts without pushing into pain. 3. Balance exercises: Since ankle sprains commonly affect balance, practicing standing on one leg for short periods restored coordination. I gradually increased the duration as discomfort allowed. 4. Gradual strengthening: Mini calf raises and ankle mobility drills were added progressively from week two onward, avoiding any aggressive turning or twisting early on to protect healing ligaments. 5. Listening to your body: Some discomfort during rehab is normal, but sharp pain or swelling means it’s time to rest and modify activities. Many people think complete rest is best initially, but current evidence shows early controlled rehab can improve healing outcomes and reduce recovery time. You can expect pain to subside significantly after two weeks, but taping or bracing may still be helpful during sports for added protection. Remember, every injury is unique so consulting a physiotherapist to tailor exercises to your specific sprain grade can optimize recovery. Starting rehab with informed steps and patience set me on the path to returning to regular activities confidently and safely.

Ankle pain? This is 1 Pilates move I still teach
Ankle pain doesn't mean you need to stop moving. It means you need to load it the right way. This is a single-leg calf press on Chair — one of the moves I still prescribe as a physio for ankle pain. Because here's what most people get wrong about ankle rehabilitation. They rest. They

My Ankle Surgery Journey 🦵✨
Back in May, I missed a step on the stairs and fell. At first, I went to TCM and the doctor told me I’d be fine in a week. But by the end of May, my ankle still felt weird. So, I went to see a specialist… and that’s when I found out through MRI that I had completely torn TWO ligaments. I alread
