Pain on the inside of the foot and ankle! Taping works!
Dealing with medial ankle pain can be frustrating, but taping is a highly effective and accessible method to manage this discomfort. Through my personal experience as someone who has recovered from similar pain, I found that properly applying tape not only reduced my pain levels but also improved my ankle stability during daily activities. The pain typically arises from strain or inflammation in areas such as the Tibialis Posterior tendon, the Flexor Hallucis tendon, and just below the Medial Malleolus bone. By using rigid sports tape with a width of about 38mm, you can provide targeted support to these key areas. Starting the tape application from the outside of the foot and pulling it inward creates a supportive brace that limits excessive strain. Repeating this method and adding vertical strips over the Flexor Hallucis tendon enhances the support system. An additional helpful tip is to ensure that any gaps during taping are filled with extra strips to maintain consistent pressure and avoid tape shifting. Locking off the tape securely at the foot’s middle and top prevents loosening throughout the day. It's important to customize the approach based on where your pain is most intense—whether focusing more on the tendons or around the medial malleolus. Combining these three taping strategies can dramatically improve comfort and facilitate recovery. Remember, taping should complement other treatments such as rest, ice, and gradual strengthening exercises. If the pain persists or worsens, consulting a physiotherapist is crucial to rule out any severe injuries. Overall, integrating taping into a recovery routine has helped many regain mobility and reduce discomfort effectively.
