Sometimes I get ready and don’t feel insecure but the other half of the time I feel so insecure it’s unhealthy. I have been sick and loosing a lot of weight fast and being told I look like I’m on drugs is a real confirmation of just how serious this sickness is.

... Read moreIt's truly brave to share such vulnerable feelings, and your experience with insecurity due to sickness and rapid weight loss resonates with so many of us. That feeling of being told you 'look sick' or 'on drugs' can be incredibly isolating and damaging to self-esteem, especially when you're already battling health issues. This is where the concept of 'perception reframing' can be a powerful tool. It's not about denying your reality or pretending everything is fine. Instead, it's about consciously shifting your perspective and challenging the negative thoughts that arise from difficult situations. When you're losing weight unintentionally and feeling unwell, it's easy to fall into a cycle of negative self-talk – 'I look awful,' 'I'm not myself,' 'People are judging me.' Perception reframing helps you interrupt these patterns. For instance, instead of focusing solely on the visible changes or what others might say, you could try to reframe your perception. Perhaps seeing your body's current state as a testament to its resilience, fighting hard against a sickness. It's about acknowledging the struggle but also recognizing your inner strength. This isn't always easy, and it takes consistent effort, but even small shifts can make a difference. One way I've found helpful is through journaling. Writing down those insecure thoughts and then deliberately trying to find an alternative, more compassionate way to view the situation can be incredibly therapeutic. For example, if my thought is, 'I hate how thin my face looks,' I might reframe it to, 'My body is undergoing changes, and I'm learning to be gentle with myself through this process.' It's a journey of self-compassion. Another practical tip involves focusing on what your body can do, rather than what it currently can't or how it looks. Even if energy levels are low, appreciating small victories like a gentle walk or simply resting when needed can help change your internal narrative. It also helps to curate your environment – surrounding yourself with supportive people who uplift you and minimize exposure to those who make unhelpful comments. If you're seeking more structured support in areas like perception reframing, many resources are available. For example, if you happen to be in a place like Naples, FL, you might find local therapists specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or mindfulness-based stress reduction, both of which incorporate elements of perception reframing. These professionals can provide personalized strategies to help you navigate body image issues, chronic illness, and the emotional toll they take. Online communities and support groups can also offer a shared space to discuss these challenges and learn from others' reframing techniques. Remember, taking care of your mental and emotional well-being is just as crucial as managing the physical aspects of your sickness.

This book is really nice, easy to read, and super relatable It really puts my thoughts into words. It's so sad to be able to identify with so much but sometimes all you need is to see your feelings there, written and exposed so that you also understand how you feel a bit better than before
