This is the first time I’ve ever painted a photo I took, and I am so proud of it 🤩 this is the very first time I saw Cotopaxi, as I was driving from my hostel to the airport super early to catch a flight out of Quito. I had gotten to the city the night before so it was too dark to see it then, and this is a moment that will forever be so special to me. ¡Y ahora lo he pintado! 🥰🎨🗻✨🫶🏼

Painting a photo you captured yourself can be an incredibly rewarding artistic experience, as it allows you to relive a precious moment with new creative expression. In this case, Cotopaxi, one of Ecuador’s most iconic volcanoes, serves as an inspiring subject that connects both natural beauty and personal memory. Cotopaxi, located about 50 kilometers southeast of Quito, is the highest active volcano in Ecuador and among the tallest in the world. Its snow-capped peak makes it a stunning subject for photographers and painters alike. Many travelers arriving in Quito may first glimpse Cotopaxi early in the morning from the airport road, a sight that clearly left a lasting impression. Capturing such a landmark through acrylic painting adds depth, as this medium’s vibrant colors and texture allow artists to convey emotion and atmosphere. For beginners, painting from personal photos can enhance skills in color matching, composition, and detail. If you’ve ever considered transforming your travel photos into paintings, here are a few tips: select images with strong lighting and clear focus on your subject; plan your color palette based on the natural tones seen in the photo; and allow yourself to interpret the scene with your own style rather than copying every detail perfectly. Sharing your art journey, like painting Cotopaxi for the first time, not only honors your memories but can inspire others to explore creativity through familiar moments. Whether you paint landscapes, cityscapes, or portraits, the key is to connect emotionally with your subject. This personal connection reflects in your artwork and engages viewers who may share your passion or dream of visiting such places. When preparing your posts online, using relevant hashtags such as #cotopaxi_ecuador, #painting, and #acrylicpainting helps reach communities interested in travel and art, expanding your audience and feedback. Ultimately, documenting your first attempts at painting cherished photos is a wonderful way to grow artistically and preserve unforgettable journeys like the moment you first saw Cotopaxi from Quito’s airport.
