My first Sci-fi romance

My Recent Read (audiobook)

📖 Name of the Book: Choosing Theo

📄 Plot: Jade was kidnapped by aliens that she had no idea that existed. They did not have good intentions and she knew she had to escape. She was rescued by Clecanians but had to remain on this alien plant for a full year. Along with this she must choose a husband to take care of her. Theo thinks she has other intentions and “tries” to push her to the line of breaking.

📖 Genre: sci-fi romance

📄 My Favorite Quotes: She looked at his door when she neared and muttered, “Should’ve picked dumb and pretty. Always pick dumb and pretty, Jade.”

💭 My Thoughts: I’ll start off by saying I listen to the audiobook and the male narrator done a great job. This was my first alien romance and I actually enjoyed it. Jade fought back and was witty. (I hate helpless fmcs) Theo was grumpy but in all the right ways. He also went to husband school which I loved the idea of. Females on the plant are treasured. There was intensity from the first … smell. I just really enjoyed this listen!

🌶️ Rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

... Read moreOkay, so after diving headfirst into 'Choosing Theo' by Victoria Aveline, I absolutely have to share more about why this book, and the whole Clecanian series, has me hooked! If you’re like me and curious about alien romance, this is such a fantastic entry point. I know a lot of you search for details about the Clecanian series, and this book really sets the stage for a unique world on an alien planet where females are treasured. One of the biggest draws for me was the dynamic between Jade and Theo. We often see the 'Grumpy MMC' trope, but Theo takes it to another level with his possessive nature, which I found incredibly compelling. He’s not just grumpy; he’s a protector, and seeing him try to push Jade while secretly caring for her was just *chef's kiss*. The 'Arranged/Forced Marriage' element, as mentioned in the cover keywords, is handled so well here. It’s not just a plot device; it's central to their developing relationship and the culture of the Clecanian society. This ties perfectly into the 'Forced Proximity' — they are literally stuck together, which just ramps up the tension and chemistry! And let's talk about the infamous 'husband school'! Seriously, how clever is that? It’s such a unique concept for an alien society where men are taught how to be ideal partners. It adds a layer of humor and cultural depth that I wasn’t expecting in a sci-fi romance. It really highlights how different the Clecanian values are compared to human ones, especially regarding gender roles, where females are held in such high esteem. For those wondering about the 'spice level' – my 🌶️🌶️🌶️ rating means it's definitely present and impactful without being gratuitous. It’s woven into the story naturally, enhancing the emotional and physical connection between Jade and Theo. It leans into aspects like 'Primal Play' and intense longing, making the intimate moments feel earned and passionate. This isn't just fade-to-black; it's descriptive and hot, contributing to the overall immersive experience. The 'Alien Planet' setting is also vividly described, making you feel like you’re right there with Jade, navigating this new, dangerous, yet fascinating world. From the unique flora and fauna to the societal norms, Victoria Aveline built a truly immersive universe. If you love discovering new alien worlds, combined with a 'Sunshine MFC' who’s witty and resilient, paired with a brooding, 'Possessive/Grumpy MMC' who melts for her, even with all the 'Banter' and 'Forced Proximity', then 'Choosing Theo' is absolutely a must-read (or listen, the audiobook is fantastic!). It's a perfect blend of adventure, emotion, and undeniable heat that made me eager to explore the rest of the Clecanian series. You won't regret taking this journey!
