Whether you plan on doing purées or baby lead weaning I got you covered!
🌟Wee Sprout has this awesome food prep kit for baby lead weaning.
🌟I liked this baby Frida set of toothbrushes because they allow your little one independence with brushing their teeth as your baby grows but still provides the extra support for teeth cleaning vs. a regular toothbrush, as these hit all sides at once.
🌟As far as bibs, I’ve loved these these long sleeve bibs they make clean up so much easier especially if I don’t want to bath my baby after eating and/or I want to keep their clothes clean!
🌟For us these Dr Brown sippy cups were super easy for my baby to learn to drink from. The water comes out of the straw without much force. Most leak proof cups are hard for baby to drawl the water out. This one doesn’t leak, can be used to drink out of any angle and is easy for baby to drawl water out of.
🌟I will list a couple different types of spoons that were helpful in learning to self feed on another post. Every baby is different so they may take to one better than the others. The one listened in this post comes with a tray. The spoon is chunky so it’s easy for baby to hold and has a no choke blocker on it so they don’t shove it too far into their mouth. This plate ACTUALLY STAYS SUCTION CUPPED TO THE TABLE! And it comes with to extra toggles so you can attach a cup. Or use on the stroller.
🌟These dream baby no squeeze pouch holders are awesome. It even holds the cap inside!
🌟These reusable baby food pouches are bomb! They are dishwasher safe, freezer safe, pvc, bpa and phthalate safe!
🌟We had this super cheap steamer/purée-er and it did the trick! I know there are a lot of options on the market. We didn’t need anything fancy. It steams then you turn it over and purée it!
... Read moreI know how overwhelming it can feel when your little one starts eating solids, whether you're team purée or diving headfirst into baby-led weaning! Beyond just the gear, there are so many questions. Let's talk about a couple of things that were big for us, especially those tricky dental hygiene beginnings and fun food like pasta for BLW.
When it comes to brushing those brand-new baby teeth, it's never too early to start! I remember feeling a bit nervous about putting anything in my baby's mouth, but introducing a baby training toothbrush with a stopper was a game-changer for peace of mind. The stopper is truly a genius invention – it prevents your little one from pushing the brush too far back, which is a huge relief for parents worried about gagging or choking. We started with the Fridababy Grow-With-Me training toothbrush set, which I mentioned in the main post, and found their triple-angle cleaning design incredibly effective. It felt like we were covering all the bases even when my baby was just gnawing on it! The goal isn't perfect brushing at first, but rather to get them used to the sensation and build a positive association with oral care. Even before teeth pop through, you can use a soft finger brush or a damp cloth to gently clean their gums after feeds. This sets a fantastic foundation for healthy habits.
Now, for my fellow BLW parents, let's talk about BLW pasta! Pasta can be a fantastic, easy, and fun food to introduce. The key is preparation. Forget al dente; for BLW, you want it cooked until it’s super soft – think mushy, easily squished between your fingers. This significantly reduces choking hazards. When choosing shapes, focus on those that are easy for tiny hands to grasp. Large, ridged shapes like penne, fusilli, or rotini are perfect. Even spaghetti or linguine can work if you cut it into short, manageable pieces (about 1-2 inches long) after cooking. I found our WeeSprout food prep kit, with its crinkle cutter, surprisingly useful for making pasta pieces a bit more textured and easier for my little one to hold onto. You can serve it plain, or with a simple, unsalted tomato sauce, a thin vegetable purée, or even a tiny bit of diluted pesto (watch for allergens!). Always remember to supervise your baby closely during meals, cut any longer strands of pasta, and make sure the pieces are big enough to grab but soft enough to mash easily in their mouth. Our suction plate was invaluable for keeping the pasta from ending up on the floor! It truly makes mealtime less stressful and more enjoyable for everyone involved.
