First Book Of The Year

So my first book of 2025 was unfortunately probably the worst book I’ve ever read. This is a thriller that takes place on a plane- which I love… but they didn’t use the elements of being on a plane to build the suspense of the book. There were also too many characters and they didn’t really get developed in the book enough. The ending was kind of predictable and cliche… and there was a lot about it that just didn’t hit. I will post a blog about this eventually but… overall I wouldn’t recommend this. #2025reads #readsofthisyear #readsthisyear #booktok #books

2025/1/7 Edited to

... Read moreAs we dive into the world of thrillers, especially those set in high-stakes environments like airplanes, it's important to engage readers with compelling narratives. The book I reviewed, while set on a flight, missed key opportunities to leverage its unique setting to enhance suspense. Many authors struggle with character development, often overloading stories with too many characters without fully fleshing them out. This leads to predictability, which can leave readers unsatisfied. Interestingly, not all thrillers fall into this trap. Some successful authors use confined spaces to create tension and keep readers on the edge of their seats. For instance, the popular airplane thriller 'Final Boarding' uses its limited setting effectively, while also keeping readers guessing about character motivations. In choosing reads for the year, consider looking for books that not only promise excitement but also give depth to their storylines. Reading reviews can help guide you to titles that truly engage and thrill. Stay tuned for my upcoming blog where I will highlight better alternatives and what to look for in a gripping thriller this year.
