Ever have a goal you thought you’d never meet?

I haven’t been able to do a pull up since the 7th grade, which was…years ago.

I’ve always called myself “bottom heavy” and said that my arms were “puny.”

I thought my upper body would never be strong enough to lift my lower body.

But I did the work, and after months of trying, I can now do a pull up…sometimes!

Some nights I can’t squeak one out for whatever reason, but I don’t look at it like a failure. I know I’m capable and I’m trying, so I’m proud.

Trying is so much better than quitting.

Whatever goal you’re striving for, keep at it. It will come.

... Read moreSetting fitness goals can often feel daunting, especially when it involves exercises that require upper body strength like pull-ups. Many individuals struggle with this exercise, which effectively works multiple muscle groups, including the back, shoulders, and arms. It's essential to approach such challenges with realistic expectations and a plan. Setting incremental goals is key; for instance, start by boosting your upper body strength with exercises like lat pulldowns or inverted rows. Use resistance bands to assist you in completing pull-ups, giving you the confidence to transition into unassisted pulls. Moreover, maintaining a consistent workout routine combined with proper nutrition will significantly enhance your strength and endurance over time. Progress can be non-linear, and it’s crucial to celebrate small victories along the way. If one day you can’t complete a pull-up, don’t view it as a setback. Instead, recognize that the effort you’ve put into training contributes to your journey. Surrounding yourself with a supportive community, whether through social media or fitness groups, can provide motivation and accountability as you strive to meet your goals. Every effort you make counts and will bring you closer to achieving your ambitions in fitness and beyond.

If you’ve ever started a journal and then stopped,
you’re not alone. Most people think it’s a “discipline” problem. But really? It’s an emotional one. When we slow down enough to listen, the noise inside gets loud. So we scroll. We clean. We promise we’ll start again next Monday. The trick isn’t forcing yourself to write more. It’s learni

When you don’t make your reading goal…
Something I’ve learned over these three years that I’ve had a reading goal is to not only have just a number. This year I set out to read 50 books, 10 less than my goal last year (which I just barely missed at 56). Last year I was just coming out of college and unemployed and 60 seemed reasonable
