請戸小学校は、ただの震災遺構ではなく、震災当時のリアルな時間軸を体感できる貴重な施設です。個人的にも訪れた際、校舎１階の津波で大きな被害を受けた状況が保存されている場所はとても衝撃的で、津波の自然の強大さを肌で感じることができました。 この小学校の特徴は「奇跡の小学校」とも言われる全員避難の成功。震度6強の大地震発生から30〜40分後には約15メートルの津波が押し寄せた中、2年生から6年生の児童82名と教職員13名の計95名が無事避難できたのは、防災教育や地域での連携、防災林による津波の緩和が役立っていると感じました。 また、絵本などで震災の避難状況が伝えられている点も、子供や地域の方々が震災の教訓を忘れずに未来へつなげる取り組みとして印象的でした。震災によって閉校となりましたが、防災意識の風化を防ぐために訪れる価値が高い施設です。 宿泊不可の請戸地区ですが、訪問できる時間帯や休館日を公式HPで確認し、ぜひ訪れて震災の現実や防災の大切さを直接感じてほしいと思います。震災遺構の中でも、福島県内で唯一のものであることも特筆すべき点。より多くの人がこうした場所を訪れ、防災への 意識を高めるきっかけになればと願っています。
