Hydrangeas are beloved for their lush, colorful blooms, especially when vibrant pink flowers grace the garden. From personal experience, achieving that perfect pink hue requires attention to soil pH. Unlike blue hydrangeas that thrive in acidic soil, pink hydrangeas prefer alkaline conditions with a pH above 7. To encourage pink blooms, I added garden lime to the soil in early spring and monitored the pH regularly. Water is also key—these plants love consistent moisture but dislike soggy soil. I made sure to water deeply once or twice a week, especially during dry spells, which helped maintain their health and bloom density. Additionally, pruning plays an important role. I prune after flowering, trimming dead wood and shaping the bush to promote new growth for the next season. Location matters, too. Providing morning sun with afternoon shade protects the blossoms from harsh heat that can cause fading or wilting. Rich, well-drained soil amended with compost supports vigorous growth. Watching my hydrangeas transition from buds to full, soft pink clusters is truly rewarding.
