I've been eagerly awaiting the opening of both Uchi and Uchibā in Plaza Midwood, and Uchibā, with its unique rooftop vibe, truly exceeded my expectations. Perched right above Uchi at 1720 Commonwealth Ave, Uchibā offers such a distinct and inviting atmosphere. It's chic but still super relaxed, making it perfect for a fun night out with friends or a special date. The lighting, the music, the overall design—it all just sets the mood for a fantastic Japanese-inspired evening. It really feels like a distinct experience from the more formal Uchi downstairs, which I appreciate for different occasions. This spot is definitely bringing a fresh energy to the Charlotte dining scene. Now, onto the good stuff: the menu! While Uchi is known for its incredible sushi and sashimi (and yes, the Hama Chili is a must-try there!), Uchibā shines with its innovative Japanese street food and creative cocktails. I tried a few small plates, and each one was a winner. The pork belly buns were melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and the yakitori skewers were perfectly grilled with just the right amount of char and flavor. The menu encourages sharing, which is great because you'll want to sample everything! And the cocktails? Oh my goodness. They're not just pretty; they're expertly crafted. I had a Yuzu Margarita that was so refreshing and perfectly balanced, and my friend raved about their unique take on an Old Fashioned with a Japanese twist. It’s definitely a place where you want to order several things to share and just explore the flavors. The service was another highlight of my Uchibā Charlotte experience. The staff were incredibly attentive without being intrusive, and they were happy to walk us through the menu and offer recommendations based on our preferences. It really made the whole experience seamless and enjoyable. Given that it literally just opened, I was impressed by how smoothly everything ran. If you're planning a visit, especially since this Uchibā is still fresh on the Charlotte scene (it opened around April 3rd!), I'd highly recommend making a reservation, especially for a weekend evening. The rooftop can get pretty popular! Also, don't be afraid to ask your server for their favorite street food dishes or cocktail pairings; they clearly know their stuff. And if you have time, maybe pop into Uchi downstairs for a different kind of Japanese culinary journey – it’s a great complement. So, for anyone wondering about Uchibā Charlotte reviews, my take is a resounding yes! It absolutely lives up to the anticipation. Whether you're a local looking for a new favorite or just visiting Charlotte, this spot is a standout for its fantastic food, innovative drinks, and wonderful atmosphere. It’s not just a meal; it’s an experience. Go check it out and tell me what you think!
