From Tears to Peace 🛒

Today was one of those days that makes you stop and wonder how much can go on around a person before they crack. Spoiler: I found out 🌪️

At work, everyday stress finally caught up to me. I’m a creature of routine and I have been severely lacking. It wasn’t the cute single tear you can casually blink away, it was the “I need to step away and breathe” kind of crying. This month has been an endless stack of little frustrations, changes, and curveballs. Normally, I can keep my cool, but today… it just overflowed.

When the clock hit quitting time, I knew I needed a reset. I stopped at the tanning salon, hoping for a few minutes of warmth and silence. That’s when I spotted it, an ink stain right across my jumpsuit. Because of course, right? At that point, I could only laugh.

Next was a quick Walmart run. The kind where you’re not exactly shopping for fun, but you’re following a short list, zoning out, and avoiding running into anyone you know. I grabbed what I needed and headed home.

The minute I walked in, I unpacked my bags, let the day slide off my shoulders, and got a few dishes done. I’m thankful my boyfriend had a project planned for the day to allow the peace. I made myself my favorite little pick me up banana oat milk, and took that first sip like it was a deep breath. Then I curled up on the couch, opened Hay Day, and let the noise of the world fade while I planted crops and fed animals.

Some days can’t be fixed. They’re messy, frustrating, and just plain hard. But they can still end softly, with small comforts that feel like home. And tonight, that was enough.

... Read moreIt’s incredible how one tough day, like the one I just described, can sometimes feel like a microcosm of a much larger struggle – that feeling of things piling up, becoming overwhelming, and leaving you desperate for a 'reset my mood.' It reminds me of the deeper journey many of us are on: 'how to make peace with the past.' While my recent chaos was just a day, the emotions it stirred – frustration, overwhelm, the need to let go – are surprisingly similar to what we experience when trying to come to terms with bigger, more enduring 'past' issues. For me, finding that 'warmth' and 'quiet' at the end of a chaotic day was a small act of self-compassion. And isn't that what making peace with the past often boils down to? It's not always about grand revelations, but about consistently choosing kindness for ourselves, acknowledging the pain, and gently guiding ourselves towards a more peaceful present. Just like I wasn't 'letting that ink stain ruin my reset,' we have the power to decide what from our past we allow to dictate our present mood. One thing I've learned is that building a strong present often helps us process the past. When I finally got home, I could 'unpack everything' – not just my groceries, but the emotional baggage of the day – and feel things 'start to melt.' This process of creating a 'safe space' at home, whether it’s through simple tasks like tackling dishes or enjoying a comforting drink, helps anchor you. It builds resilience. These 'small' rituals become your anchors, reminding you that you have control over your environment and your reactions, even when the world outside feels unpredictable. If you're exploring 'how to make peace with the past,' consider weaving these daily 'reset' moments into your life. Maybe it's journaling about your feelings – not to dwell, but to acknowledge and then let them go, much like I let the day 'slide off my shoulders.' Or perhaps it's finding your own version of 'Hay Day' – a simple, engaging activity that allows your mind to shift gears and find a moment of calm. Sometimes, making peace means accepting that some parts of your past can't be changed, and instead, focusing on what you can do now to cultivate 'home' within yourself. It’s about giving yourself permission to move forward, one peaceful moment at a time. Whether it's a deep breath, a favorite song, or creating a cozy corner, these small acts accumulate. They teach your mind and body that peace is possible, even after the storm. And with each intentional choice to find calm, you're not just resetting your day, you're building a foundation for making peace with all the 'pasts' that have shaped you, transforming tears into a quiet, enduring peace.
