Feeding the Beardies!!

It's such a joy watching my baby bearded dragon enthusiastically gobble up crickets! When I first got them, I had so many questions, just like many of you probably do. Let me share what I've learned about feeding these fascinating reptiles their favorite crunchy snack. First off, are crickets good for bearded dragons? Absolutely, in moderation and with proper gut-loading! Crickets are a fantastic source of protein and essential nutrients, which are crucial for the rapid growth of baby and juvenile bearded dragons. However, it's vital to "gut-load" your crickets before feeding them. This means feeding the crickets a nutritious diet themselves (like fresh veggies, cricket food, or hydration cubes) for at least 24 hours before offering them to your dragon. This way, your beardie gets all those extra vitamins and minerals second-hand – making the crickets a tiny, living vitamin pill! Now, for the big question: how many crickets should I feed my bearded dragon? This truly depends on their age. For baby bearded dragons (up to around 6 months), they are growing incredibly fast and need lots of protein. I typically offer as many small crickets as they can eat in a 10-15 minute period, usually 2-3 times a day. This can be anywhere from 20-60 small crickets daily!
