This fall book just didn't hit😅🍂

Y'all, this one was a little bit of a disappointment. The Pumpkin Spice Cafe is one of my most anticipated fall reads I set on my TBR. It was all over TikTok and Bookstagram last year, so I was super hyped to read it this fall.

But...it wasn't great, in my opinion.

My review is on the third slide, but, in short, the absolute lack of communication on the MMCs behalf had me going crazy. I couldn't handle it, but maybe that's just on me😅 The 3rd person POV also wasn't something I loved. I don't typically like reading books written in 3rd person, but this one seemed especially...bad? The way it would switch which characters it was narrating so often, it made it a little difficult to follow along. Needless to say, it was a 3 star read for me.

Have you read The Pumpkin Spice Cafe? What were your thoughts? Would you recommend the rest for the series?

... Read moreAfter my recent read of 'The Pumpkin Spice Cafe,' I've been thinking a lot about what makes a fall romance truly hit and what elements can make it fall flat, especially when it comes to the characters and those beloved tropes we all look for. One of the biggest draws for me was the promise of a 'Grumpy x Sunshine' dynamic, often a recipe for irresistible banter and heartwarming growth. In 'The Pumpkin Spice Cafe,' we meet Jeanie and Logan, and while the idea of their pairing was exciting, I found myself wishing for a deeper connection and less of the frustrating miscommunication that permeated their story. You know that feeling when you just want to shake the characters and tell them to talk to each other? That was me, constantly! For a trope that thrives on tension and eventual understanding, the lack of clear communication felt like a missed opportunity to truly develop their relationship into something memorable. I kept hoping for those big, swoon-worthy moments where they finally connect, but they felt overshadowed by the constant back-and-forth. The 'Small Town' setting and 'Gilmore Girls Vibes' also painted a picture of cozy charm and quirky community, which is exactly what I crave in a fall read. And while the cafe itself sounded delightful, I felt like the community aspect didn't quite shine through as much as I'd hoped. I love when the small town feels like a character in itself, supporting or challenging the main couple, but here, it was mostly background. And the 'Mystery' element mentioned? It was definitely present, but for me, it didn't quite blend seamlessly with the romance, sometimes feeling a bit tacked on rather than an integral part of Jeanie and Logan's journey. If you, like me, were left wanting more from 'The Pumpkin Spice Cafe' or are simply looking for your next perfect autumn escape that truly delivers on these tropes, I have a few suggestions that might tickle your fancy! For a genuinely heartwarming 'Grumpy x Sunshine' with fantastic communication and character development, 'The Love Hypothesis' by Ali Hazelwood is a fantastic choice, offering that academic grump and bright, optimistic lead. If you're craving that perfect small-town charm with a strong sense of community and cozy vibes, 'Evvie Drake Starts Over' by Linda Holmes or anything by Emily Henry often capture that feeling beautifully. And for a fall romance that truly embodies the season with a sprinkle of magic and well-developed characters, consider titles like 'Payback's a Witch' by Lana Harper or 'Practical Magic' by Alice Hoffman – they really immerse you in that autumnal atmosphere. Ultimately, while 'The Pumpkin Spice Cafe' had all the ingredients for a perfect fall read, it just didn't quite bake up to my expectations. But that's the beauty of reading, right? There's always another book waiting to surprise and delight you!
