First time on a galleon!
It’s the little things with your kids 🙌🏻 #parenting #gaming #seaofthieves #viralvideos #twitch
Our first time truly commanding a galleon in Sea of Thieves was an absolute whirlwind, especially with my sons as crewmates! I had primarily sailed sloops before, so stepping onto that massive ship felt like navigating a whole new world. The sheer size alone was intimidating, and finding your bearings on deck felt like a mini-quest in itself. We spent a good ten minutes just trying to locate the captain's quarters and the vote table to start our first voyage – talk about being 'lost in this ship'! It really highlights how crucial it is to know your ship's layout when you're dealing with such a beast. The biggest lesson we learned quickly was the absolute necessity of communication and teamwork. On a sloop, one person can manage most things, but on a galleon, it’s a different beast. We had to coordinate raising the anchor, adjusting all three sails, and steering simultaneously. My eldest took the helm, trying to wrestle with the massive wheel, while my youngest attempted to manage the sails, often getting them tangled or forgetting to raise them fully. It was chaotic, sure, but seeing them work together, even imperfectly, was a parenting win. We learned to assign roles: one on the helm, one on sails, and one on lookout, which improved our efficiency dramatically. Sailing this behemoth brought its own set of challenges and thrills. We were constantly scanning the horizon, remembering that message about EMISSARIES CAN EARN INCREASED REWARDS BUT ARE VALUABLE TARGETS FOR OTHER CREWS. This added a layer of tension and excitement to every journey. Thankfully, our first few voyages were relatively peaceful, allowing us to get the hang of things without immediate threat. We managed to land at an outpost, sell our first bit of loot from a treasure chest, and even gather some supplies like coconuts and grubs from barrels – surprisingly useful for healing when inevitable skirmishes arise! The boys absolutely loved the little details, like finding our "first cosmetic!" and admiring how "cool looking" our ship was becoming with its "nice sails." They especially got a kick out of lighting fireworks at sea, creating a momentary spectacle before we returned to the serious business of sailing. These small moments of joy truly make the game special. For any other parents or first-timers thinking of taking on a galleon, my advice is: embrace the chaos! Start with simpler voyages to get comfortable with the ship's mechanics. Don't be afraid to get lost, crash into islands, or even sink – it's all part of the learning curve and makes for the best stories. The 'good teamwork' moments, when everything clicks and you perfectly navigate a storm or narrowly escape a kraken, are incredibly rewarding. It's not just about the loot; it's about the shared adventure and the bonding experience with your crew, whether they're seasoned pirates or your own little landlubbers.
