This past weekend I stayed at the Aloft Santa Clara by Marriott, and I swear it felt like I accidentally checked into a time machine.
The entire hotel had this eerie 1990s vibe..from the decor and atmosphere to the overall energy. Everything felt frozen in time. The furniture, lighting, and even the ambiance seemed incredibly dated, like it hadn’t changed in decades.
But what really threw me off was the crowd. I’ve traveled quite a bit, and I’ve never experienced anything like it. People seemed unusually animated, eccentric, and almost like they were characters in a movie. The whole experience felt surreal.
I’m not saying it was bad…just bizarre. It was one of those places where you keep looking around thinking, “Is anyone else noticing this?”
Has anyone else stayed here or experienced something similar while visiting California? Or was I just in some weird time warp?

🤯 Bizarre experiences: Definitely a Portal and #backroom level 24
... Read moreDuring my stay at the Aloft Santa Clara, I couldn’t help but feel like I had stepped through a portal into another timeline. The hotel’s unmistakable 1990s vibe was everywhere—from the neon lights and retro furniture to the outdated wallpaper and carpeting. What struck me most, however, was the atmosphere created by the guests and staff. People walked around with an energy that was strangely animated and almost theatrical, adding to the sense that this place existed outside of normal time.
This feeling is reminiscent of what some refer to as the 'backroom experience,' where environments feel eerily disconnected from the present, trapping visitors in a bizarre and unsettling reality. I’ve stayed at many hotels over the years, but none have created such an oddly nostalgic blend of creepiness and charm.
If you’re intrigued by places that feel like portals from another era, Aloft Santa Clara might just be worth a visit. It’s a spot that invites you to slow down and absorb the quirky details that transport you back decades. For paranormal enthusiasts or fans of the unusual, this hotel's ambiance feels like a blend of horror and mystery—perfect for sharing stories and sparking imagination.
Have you ever experienced a hotel stay where time seemed to stand still or the vibe was just inexplicably surreal?
