How To Understand Difficult Bible Passages

Have you ever read a Bible passage and thought, “What does this mean?” You’re not alone.

Some passages are challenging because they were written in different times, cultures, and situations. This visual storyboard provides a biblical framework for studying difficult verses faithfully without taking them out of context.

📖 Learn how to:

✨ Pray for wisdom before studying

✨ Read passages in context

✨ Compare Scripture with Scripture

✨ Understand historical backgrounds

✨ Use trusted study tools wisely

✨ Apply God’s truth to daily life

This board is designed to help believers move from confusion to confidence while keeping God’s Word as the final authority.

Perfect for:

📚 Bible study groups

📚 New believers

📚 Homeschool families

📚 Bible journaling

📚 Personal devotions

📚 Christian education

Key Scriptures featured include:

📖 2 Timothy 3:16

📖 James 1:5

📖 Psalm 119:18

📖 Acts 17:11

📖 John 14:26

📖 Isaiah 55:8-9

📖 Matthew 5:6

One of the most important lessons in Bible study is that difficult passages should never discourage us from reading Scripture. Instead, they invite us to dig deeper into God’s Word and grow in spiritual maturity.

📚 Every Drawn By Scripture storyboard includes Bible references throughout the design so you can study directly from Scripture and verify every detail for yourself.

🤎 As always, these visual resources are not founded on my own understanding, opinions, or traditions. Every board is built directly from God’s Word, with Scripture references included throughout so that the Bible remains the authority and the proof.

📚 More Bible maps, timelines, genealogy boards, character studies, and visual Bible resources are available through the link in my bio.

... Read moreEncountering difficult Bible passages can feel overwhelming at times, but my experience has shown that approaching these texts with patience and the right tools transforms confusion into spiritual growth. One helpful practice is to begin any Bible study session with a prayer for wisdom, inviting the Holy Spirit to guide your understanding, as emphasized in James 1:5. I found that reading the passage multiple times in its full chapter and book context prevents misinterpretation and reveals deeper meaning. Cross-referencing Scripture with Scripture is another invaluable method; for example, when grappling with prophetic or symbolic texts like those about the end times, consulting related verses clarifies difficult concepts. Using trusted resources like commentaries and Bible dictionaries helps uncover cultural and historical background, illuminating why certain passages were written and how ancient customs may influence interpretation. Keeping a study journal to write down observations and questions has made my Bible study more interactive and fruitful. It encourages continuous seeking, especially when dealing with complex themes like election or spiritual warfare, referenced in passages from Ephesians and Romans. Importantly, I remind myself not to isolate any verse but to hold fast to the full counsel of Scripture. Lastly, perseverance is vital. Difficult does not mean unimportant, and these passages often push us to rely more on God's guidance. Personally, memorizing key verses such as 2 Timothy 3:16 has reinforced my confidence in Scripture’s inspiration and authority. This approach encourages spiritual maturity and deepens faith, turning Bible study into a meaningful journey rather than a daunting task.
