... Read moreOh, Sundays! For me, they're not just about relaxing, but about hitting the reset button so I can actually enjoy the week ahead, especially when things are about to get crazy. Like so many of you, I've found that a cluttered space really does lead to a cluttered mind. So, I’ve developed my own Sunday chore routine that makes a huge difference in my week, helping me feel prepared and calm.
First up on my list is always laundry – a never-ending saga, right? I try to get all the family's clothes washed, dried, and put away on Sunday. There’s nothing worse than starting Monday with a mountain of laundry waiting! This also includes a quick swap out: I always change bedding and change bath & hand towels. There's just something about fresh sheets that makes your bedroom feel like a sanctuary, and clean towels make getting ready feel a little more luxurious. It's a small change, but it makes a big impact on how fresh your home feels.
Next, I head to the kitchen. This is a big one for me, especially when preparing for a busy week. I always take time to clean out the fridge. It’s amazing what forgotten treasures (or science experiments!) you find in there. Toss anything expired, wipe down shelves, and organize what’s left. This step makes meal prep so much easier. Even if I don't cook full meals, I’ll chop veggies, cook a batch of rice or quinoa, and marinate some protein. Having these ready-to-go ingredients saves so much time during the week and prevents those 'what's for dinner?' panic moments. Plus, knowing healthy options are available helps me stay on track.
Beyond the practical chores, a crucial part of my Sunday reset is a quick declutter. I don't mean a deep clean, but a 15-30 minute sweep through the main living areas. Put away stray items, clear off surfaces, and deal with any 'landing strip' piles (you know, where mail, keys, and random bits land). Even small acts of decluttering can make a space feel so much calmer and more organized. It's like giving my brain a mini-vacation from visual noise.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly for my mental well-being, I take some time to plan your week. I sit down with my planner (or a digital calendar) and map out my appointments, kids' activities, work tasks, and even some time for self-care. Knowing what’s coming helps reduce anxiety and ensures I don't miss anything important. I'll also jot down a rough dinner plan for each night, which ties back into the meal prep and makes grocery shopping easier. This foresight seriously cuts down on mid-week stress.
By dedicating a few hours on Sunday to these chores and planning, I feel so much more in control and ready to tackle whatever the week throws at me – whether it's kids returning from vacation, starting a new clinical rotation, or just the usual hustle and bustle. It’s not just about a clean home; it's about creating a peaceful environment that supports a peaceful mind. Give it a try, it truly makes a difference!
