Christian Leaders: Avoid micro-management

The biblical example of Jesus shows us the power of delegation and trust in those we lead. Rather than controlling every detail, Jesus empowered his disciples to act and make decisions, which helped them grow spiritually and develop their capabilities. Micro-management often stems from a fear of losing control or the need for perfection, but it can stifle creativity, lower morale, and inhibit the growth of individuals in a team. Instead, adopting an empowering leadership style encourages responsibility and fosters a sense of ownership. It creates a healthier environment where team members feel trusted and motivated to contribute their best. Practically, I advise Christian leaders to communicate clear goals and expectations but allow freedom in how tasks are accomplished. Provide guidance and support, but avoid hovering over every action. This balance not only aligns with Jesus’ approach but also builds discipleship and leadership capacity within the community. Moreover, when leaders step back from micro-managing, they open space for God’s work in unexpected ways. It allows for spiritual gifts and talents to emerge naturally, reinforcing the mission through collective unity rather than control. Empowerment is ultimately about trusting the process and trusting people—just as Jesus did with his followers. Reflecting on the OCR reminder, “Christian Leaders! WN Do not micro-manage!”, it’s a powerful call to embrace faith-driven leadership that mirrors Christ’s style – one that nurtures autonomy and cultivates a spirit of service and simplicity in truth.
