Ways I Manage My ADHD ✨
I have ADHD and I was diagnosed after turning 30. 🫠
I’m grateful that I always knew I was ✨different✨ and accepted myself because it made dealing with my ADHD a little easier.
Some people take medication for it but I’ve chosen not to because it destroys my sleep routine and leaves me needing caffeine to function. Since I do not take meds, I create systems to hack my brain for success. Maybe they can help you.
Here are some ✨problems✨you may have with ADHD and the solution that worked for me:
Problem: You interrupt people when they talk.
Solution: Learn active listening skills and build a genuine interest for what others have to share. It’s a constant battle but one worth fighting.
Problem: You get hooked on things you’re passionate about.
Solution: Feed that interest. You’ll learn 10 times more skills than the average person and it pays.
Problem: Your home/room gets messy FAST.
Solution: Create a cleaning routine to keep it as clean as possible. It’s okay to be messy sometimes, but not filthy.
Problem: You keep your phone on silent.
Solution: None. It’s better this way. 😂
Problem: You forget to eat when you’re excited.
Solution: Meal prep and schedule lunch breaks. Stick to them.
Problem: You procrastinate important tasks.
Solution: Creat to-do lists and cross out each completed task. The dopamine hit will take over and make you addicted to the process over time.
Problem: You can’t focus in messy environments.
Solution: Keep this ‘weakness’. It’s a great way to work effectively. It may feel like procrastination but it actually will help you work more strategically.
Problem: You can’t sit still.
Solution: Try EFF tapping. It soothes anxiety and helps you focus on the information being shared. This forces you to sit still.
Problem: You struggle with impulse buys.
Solution: Create a waiting period. Force yourself to think about it longer. If I want to buy something, I force myself to wait a week before purchasing.
Problem: You lose your keys every week.
Solution: Grab a 3M hook and stick it on something near your entry door. Put your keys on the hook every time you come in/out the door. I rarely lose my keys now. 🙌🏾
Problem: You have difficulty flowing conversations.
Solution: Learn conversation skills for free on YouTube and listen to conversational podcasts. Take note of how they respond after someone speaks. Then practice it.
Problem: You zone out when people talk.
Solution: Force yourself to ask a question when they finish talking. You can’t ask a question if you weren’t listening.
If you have an ADHD brain, you are naturally…
1. A GREAT problem solver
2. A fast learner
3. A great debater
Now go use your gift for your benefit.
Be great,
Jau 💚
