My garden last summer

4/16 Edited to

... Read moreLast summer was truly a transformative experience for me as I nurtured my garden from seed to bloom. One of the biggest lessons I learned was the importance of patience and attentive care. Plants don’t grow overnight, and understanding their natural cycles helped me manage my expectations and improve my techniques. I also discovered the joy of companion planting, which not only boosts plant health but also discourages pests naturally. For instance, planting marigolds alongside vegetables helped keep unwanted insects away, reducing the need for chemical treatments. Embracing organic gardening practices enhanced the quality of my soil over time, leading to healthier, more robust plants. Another key takeaway was the value of tracking growth progress and seasonal changes. Maintaining a garden journal allowed me to record what worked well and what didn’t, enabling me to plan better for the current season. This year, I plan to expand my garden to include more native plants and pollinator-friendly flowers to support local biodiversity. Gardening has become not just a hobby but a form of mindfulness that connects me deeply with nature. Sharing this journey with the Black girl gardening community brought additional motivation and a sense of belonging. I’m excited to see how my garden evolves this season and hope to continue learning and growing alongside it.

gardening can be really expensive if you don’t know where to look for supplies. to me, spending a ton of money on gardening defeats the purpose. it should be a way to save money as you’re growing your own food! hope these ideas inspired you to start a garden this year 🌸 follow for more home
