AP classes aren’t THAT hard

Honestly I feel like people talk up AP classes a bit too much. Yes, it’s objectively challenging and you need to do a lot of work, but I don’t think it’s that big scary thing people just can’t do unless they’re really smart. Trust me. If you put in the work and actually care about the class, you can’t fail. #apclasses #school #lemon8contest #AskLemon8

... Read moreOkay, so I totally get why some of you might be hesitant about AP classes, or even wonder, 'Are AP classes a waste of time?' I mean, I did too! There's so much chatter out there about how incredibly difficult they are, and honestly, it can be pretty intimidating. But after taking a few myself, including an AP World History: Modern course where I even managed to snag an AP score of 5, I'm here to tell you that the reality isn't always as grim as the rumors make it seem. One of the biggest misconceptions is that you have to be a 'genius' to pass. Not true! What I found was that consistency and genuine interest in the subject matter were far more important than raw intelligence. For instance, if you're asking 'is AP Business hard?', the answer largely depends on your approach. Like any subject, if you're consistent with your studies, keep up with the readings, and participate in discussions, you'll be surprised at how manageable it becomes. It's less about the inherent difficulty of AP Business and more about your commitment. Many people also worry about the workload and whether AP classes are really worth the effort. Let's tackle the idea that 'AP classes are a waste of time.' From my perspective, they absolutely are not! Beyond the potential college credit (which can save you a significant amount of money, by the way!), these classes teach you invaluable skills. You learn how to manage your time effectively, critically analyze information, write persuasively, and engage in deeper academic discussions. These are skills that benefit you far beyond high school, in college and even in your career. Here are a few quick tips that helped me turn the 'AP classes are hard' perception into a 'I can do this!' reality: Don't Procrastinate: This is huge. AP courses move fast. Staying on top of assignments, even just for 20-30 minutes each day, prevents overwhelming cram sessions. Utilize Resources: Your teacher is your best friend. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Look for online resources, study guides, and practice tests. The college board website itself is a goldmine. Find a Study Buddy: Explaining concepts to someone else is a fantastic way to solidify your own understanding. Plus, it makes studying a lot less lonely. Connect to Your Interests: Even if a subject isn't your absolute favorite, try to find aspects that genuinely intrigue you. This makes the learning process much more engaging. For AP World History: Modern, I found connecting historical events to current global issues made it so much more interesting. Practice Past Papers: This is key for the AP exam itself. Getting familiar with the format and types of questions greatly reduces test anxiety. So, if you're on the fence, or if you've heard that 'AP classes are hard' and are feeling discouraged, I encourage you to reconsider. They are challenging, yes, but they are also incredibly rewarding. With the right mindset and strategies, you can absolutely succeed and maybe even get that coveted AP score of 5, just like I did! You're probably more capable than you think.
