freshmen! how to register for classes! 😊
With class registration coming up for incoming freshmen/first-years, I wanted to give y'all some tips! Class registration is my favorite time of year and i absolutely LOVE planning out different schedule options for myself.
If this is your first time registering for college classes, don't be too nervous! Lots of spots in required classes are held for first-years. You'll be able to get at least some of the classes you need.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
🎓 Look for your school's general education requirements. Try to take at least one of those classes.
🎓 Also look for the requirements to declare your major. Aim to take two(ish) of those.
🎓 Some schools have set classes that you must take as first-years. Don't forget to include those when planning a schedule.
🎓 Write all of these requirements down somewhere because you'll need them throughout all 4 years of college.
TIME CONSIDERATIONS
🎓 Don't take morning classes if you aren't an early bird. Chances are you won't attend lecture!
🎓 Also think about how late into the day you want to be in class. Do you really want to be in lab at 6 pm???
🎓 Give yourself enough time to eat lunch. You'll be learning and walking a lot, so you need to fuel your body.
🎓 Look where the classes are being held and make sure there's enough time in between to travel.
DIVIDING CREDIT HOURS
🎓 Figure out how many credit hours you are allowed to take each semester — I aim for 15-16!
🎓 See if there's required classes for first-years and count those in your total credit hours.
🎓 Most of your credit hours should be directed toward fulfilling gen-ed and major/pre-major requirements.
🎓 It's nice to save 3 or so credits for an elective class each semester! Gives you something to look forward to!
GENERAL TIPS
🎓 Check Rate My Professor and Course Forum to help you pick a professor. If you don't check, you might be stuck with an awful one :(
🎓 Don't just try to take classes with your friends. It can be tempting, but you'll have plenty of opportunities to make new ones in your classes!!
🎓 Ask upper classmen about their experience with certain classes. They'll have first-hand insight to share with you!!

Registering for classes as a freshman can be an exciting yet nerve-wracking experience. As you gear up for this important first step in your college journey, it's pivotal to familiarize yourself with your institution's registration system. Start by reviewing the course catalog, focusing on specific offerings that align with your interests and major. This helps ensure that you are not only meeting general education requirements, but also gaining insight into your academic path. Another crucial aspect is understanding the timing of courses. Many students tend to gravitate towards morning classes, but it’s essential to consider your personal productivity patterns. If you’re not an early riser, scheduling afternoon or evening classes might be more beneficial. Also, keep in mind the length of breaks between classes; ample time to transition and recharge can significantly enhance your overall academic performance. Utilizing resources such as Rate My Professors can help you choose instructors known for their teaching effectiveness. Seek recommendations from upperclassmen as they provide valuable insights that can guide your choices in selecting courses that fit your learning style. Be mindful of the credit hours; each semester, you’ll typically need 12 to 15 credit hours to maintain full-time status. It’s advantageous to balance required courses with electives, which allow exploration of other subjects that pique your interest and potentially fulfill other graduation requirements. Planning ahead and giving room for flexibility in your schedule can greatly contribute to a successful semester. Lastly, remember to enjoy the process! This is a time for exploration and discovering your passions. Embrace the opportunity to connect with classmates and build a community that supports your academic and personal growth.

Also set a timer so that you can get the classes you need as soon as your time opens. But yes, I agree. Add them to your cart early if you can
