but you’re not alone in this. there’s many of us who struggle with this almost daily no matter how hard we try to focus. the only thing that helps me focus in prayer is focusing on my breathing. but that requires so much concentration & focus to stay on top of that too. it’s a challenging mission everytime.

As someone who has experienced challenges with focus during prayer, especially with ADHD, I can relate deeply to the struggle of losing track during important moments of worship. One key thing I've found helpful, beyond just focusing on breathing, is setting a calm, distraction-free environment. For example, praying in a quiet room where I can sit comfortably without interruptions makes a huge difference. Additionally, using gentle reminder tools like prayer timers or subtle cues, such as a small note or app notification about prayer steps, helps me stay aware and reduces the chances of accidentally repeating a rakat. This keeps my mind anchored in the sequence of the prayer. I often remind myself that it's okay to have moments of distraction; patience and compassion towards oneself are important. When disappointment creeps in after forgetting or feeling unfocused, I try to shift the perspective towards gratitude for having the chance to pray again and improve focus next time. Ultimately, combining mindful breathing with creating a supportive ritual around prayer has made it less overwhelming. Sharing these experiences with others in the Muslim community, especially those with similar challenges, has encouraged me and many others to stay accountable and feel less isolated. This journey is ongoing, but with consistent effort and kindness to oneself, maintaining focus during prayer becomes more achievable.
