What apps are on your lock screen?
Dear, SweeTees 💜🫶🏽
If your lock screen still has the default flashlight and camera… this is your sign to upgrade it ✨
In today’s post, I’m showing you how to customize your bottom lock screen controls on your iPhone (iOS 18+) so you can actually use apps you want instead of what’s just there by default.
Here’s what I did:
• Long press your lock screen
• Tap Customize
• Select Lock Screen
• Tap the (–) to remove flashlight or camera
• Tap the (+) to add new controls
• Choose from system controls OR tap Open App to add any app you want
Yes… you can literally put your favorite app right on your lock screen now 👀
This is perfect if you always open the same apps and want quicker access without unlocking your phone every time.
Some ideas you can try:
• Notes for quick thoughts
• Camera alternatives (like IG or Snapchat)
• Voice memos
• Calculator
• Any app you use daily
💜 Mini Must-Knows
• “Open App” lets you add almost ANY app to your lock screen
• You can remove both default controls (you don’t have to keep one)
• This makes your phone feel way more personalized + efficient
Such a small change… but it makes your phone feel so much better to use.
Save this so you can try it later & follow for more simple tech tips 💜

Hey everyone! You know how sometimes a tiny change can make a massive difference in your daily tech life? Well, customizing my iPhone lock screen shortcuts on iOS 18+ was exactly that for me. Before, I was just like many of you, stuck with the default flashlight and camera. They’re useful, sure, but how many times do you really need them instantly from your lock screen compared to, say, your to-do list or a specific chat app? I realized my lock screen was prime real estate going to waste! After diving into the customization options, I felt like I unlocked a secret level of phone personalization. It's not just about aesthetics; it's about making your device truly work for your workflow. For instance, I used to unlock my phone, swipe, find the app, and then open it. Now, with a tap, I’m instantly in my meditation app for a quick calm-down session or my grocery list app when I remember something I need while out and about. This simple tweak has cut down so much friction in my day. Let me share some of my favorite app ideas for these new lock screen shortcuts, beyond the obvious camera alternatives: For the Productivity Enthusiast: If you're constantly jotting down ideas, link your preferred note-taking app (like Bear, Notion, or even just Apple Notes) directly. Or, if you manage tasks, a quick link to your to-do list app (Things 3, Todoist) means you capture ideas instantly before they vanish. I’ve found this invaluable for keeping my thoughts organized without interrupting my flow. The Health & Wellness Guru: Ever miss logging your water intake or a quick stretch? Add your water tracking app, a quick workout shortcut, or even a mindfulness app for instant access. I have a shortcut to my yoga app, prompting me to take a five-minute break when I see it. Quick Communication: While the phone app is there, what about a direct shortcut to your favorite messaging app like WhatsApp, Telegram, or even a specific group chat? For those important conversations, it can save precious seconds. Smart Home Control: If you have a primary smart home app you use constantly (like controlling lights or thermostat), a lock screen shortcut can be incredibly convenient, letting you manage your home before even fully unlocking your phone. The Learning Seeker: I even added a shortcut to a quick dictionary app once, for those moments when I needed to look up a word instantly! When choosing your ideal lock screen shortcuts, think about the apps you open multiple times a day for a *single, quick action*. It’s about streamlining those micro-interactions. Did you know you can also integrate these powerful shortcuts with different Focus Modes? For example, during 'Work Focus,' I have my calendar and a specific project management app ready. When I switch to 'Personal Focus,' it might be my reading app or a podcast player. This makes my lock screen an even more dynamic and personalized mobile hub. Beyond just adding apps, remember that a customized lock screen also works wonders with how you manage your Notification Center. By having your most-used apps readily available as shortcuts, you might find yourself needing to dive into the Notification Center less often for app access, leading to a cleaner, less cluttered digital experience. It's all about making your iPhone feel like it was designed just for you. So, if you haven't already, I truly encourage you to play around with these lock screen shortcuts – you might be surprised how much more efficient and enjoyable your phone becomes!
