What is with cisgender heterosexual men

So, what exactly is a cisgender man? Simply put, it's someone who was assigned male at birth and identifies as a man. It's about that alignment between the sex you were given at birth and your own deeply felt gender identity. This is different from being transgender, where someone's gender identity doesn't align with their assigned sex. Understanding this basic definition is really the first step in creating more respectful and inclusive online spaces. My original post touched upon discomfort when comments from cisgender men don't quite 'read the room,' especially in communities meant for LGBTQIA+, POC, and neurodivergent individuals like myself. When someone, often a cisgender heterosexual man, enters these spaces and makes comments that don't align with the community's purpose, it sends a clear message: 'This space isn't as safe or as dedicated to you as you thought.' It forces members to divert energy from engaging with each other to managing uncomfortable interactions. It's not about being 'anti-men'; it's about protecting the specific sanctity and purpose of these communities. It's about remembering that not every space is for every type of comment, and that respect means understanding where you are and who you're talking to. So, what can we all do? For starters, if you're entering a new online community, take a moment to observe. Read the vibe. Understand its stated purpose and who it's primarily for. If it’s a space centered around specific identities or experiences that aren't yours, consider if your comment genuinely contributes to that community's goals. Sometimes, the most respectful thing to do is to listen and learn, rather than to speak or comment in a way that centers yourself or detracts from the intended conversation. Building truly inclusive online worlds means everyone, especially those with more privilege in society, understands how their actions impact others and respects the boundaries that make these unique spaces thrive.
