How I Layer My Scent of the Day
I like to layer body lotion/body butter, scented body oil , then perfume .
This is from lightest projection to heaviest projection. I literally build the fragrance !
You always want to choose your lotions, butters , and oils to accompany your fragrances based on their notes. They should absolutely compliment the scent.
You can google the notes of your perfumes to
make sure everything else matches.
I love fragrantica.com because it breaks down the notes in an easy to understand picture
I believe BKR 540 is the best perfume for so many reason.
But one of the reasons I love it so much is because you can wear it during the summer, spring , winter and fall seasons!
If you could only wear one perfume for the rest of your life what would it be?

Building a long-lasting, signature scent is truly an art, and I'm so glad we're diving deeper into this! You know how I love starting my fragrance journey with a good base, and that's where some unexpected heroes, like treasures from Trader Joe's, really shine. It's not just about the perfume itself; it's about creating a canvas for your fragrance to really pop and stay put all day. I've found that Trader Joe's offers some incredible, budget-friendly options that are perfect for this first step – the body butter or lotion. The Cacay Oil Body Butter mentioned in my routine is a personal favorite because it's so nourishing and has a subtle, clean scent that won't clash with most perfumes. But honestly, many of their seasonal body butters, like the Pumpkin Spice or Peppermint varieties, can be fantastic if you're layering with a perfume that shares similar notes. Imagine pairing a warm, gourmand perfume with a hint of Trader Joe's Vanilla Pumpkin body butter! It's a game-changer. When you're browsing the aisles at Trader Joe's, don't just think about their body products. Keep an eye out for their scented hand creams or even their occasional fragrance oils. While they might not be labeled "perfume" or "fragrance," many of them have lovely, simple scent profiles that can act as excellent base layers. For example, their Coconut Body Butter would be amazing under a tropical or beachy scent, enhancing its longevity without overpowering it. The key is to match the underlying notes – if your perfume has a strong vanilla base, look for a lotion with vanilla; if it's floral, choose something neutral or subtly floral. And speaking of matching notes, let's talk about the magic of finding affordable dupes for layering. My BSB Brown Sugar Babe Nourishing Body Oil, which I use as a Step 2, is often hailed as a fantastic dupe for Baccarat Rouge 540. Finding these kinds of gems, especially when they're more affordable, completely transforms your layering game. You get the essence of a high-end fragrance without the full price tag, allowing you to use it more liberally as a base. I usually discover these by reading reviews or asking other fragrance enthusiasts. Don't be afraid to experiment with different body oils or even hair mists that share similar notes to your target perfume. My best tip for anyone trying to build an all-day scent using Trader Joe's or any budget-friendly options is to always do a sniff test. Apply a tiny bit of the lotion or oil to your skin and let it dry for a few minutes. Then, spray your perfume over it. Does it blend seamlessly? Does it enhance the perfume, or does it create a distracting clash? This simple test can save you from a fragrance faux pas. Remember, the goal is to build the fragrance, not to create a muddled mess. By starting with a nourishing, subtly scented base like those from Trader Joe's, and then building up with a complementary oil or dupe, you're setting your favorite perfume up for success, ensuring it lingers beautifully from morning to night. Happy layering!
