📍 Bites and Brews @ Joo Chiat

🥪 Duck Confit and Fig Sourdough Sandwich ($29)

Crazy stacked sourdough with cheddar, mozzarella, arugula, fresh figs, fig mostarda mayonnaise, and a cloud egg - this was my favorite!!! I could taste chunks of duck in there and the fig was such an added bonus 🤤

🍳 Crazy Rich Egg-sian ($29)

LUXURY PLATTER with a SPREEEEAD - two soft boiled eggs with caviar and ikura, cured meats and olives, sourdough with fresh berries, jam and matcha butter, toasted brioche, flavoured butters (matcha, black sesame and raspberry), candied fig and baked Camembert. Felt like I was some boujee taitai when eating this hehe

🍵 White Rabbit Matcha ($6)

Supposedly matcha latte with white rabbit syrup but I honestly couldn’t taste any white rabbit flavour at all and it tasted more milky than matcha-y… a bit disappointed tbh

One of the standout items is the Duck Confit and Fig Sourdough Sandwich, which impresses with its layers of cheddar, mozzarella, arugula, fresh figs, and a fig mostarda mayonnaise that perfectly complements the rich duck meat. The addition of the cloud egg creates a luscious texture contrast that elevates the sandwich beyond a typical cafe fare. The Crazy Rich Egg-sian platter is another highlight that makes you feel extravagantly pampered. Featuring soft boiled eggs adorned with caviar and ikura, cured meats, olives, fresh berries with matcha butter, toasted brioche, and a variety of flavored butters including black sesame and raspberry, this platter covers a wide spectrum of flavors that blend sweet, savory, and umami notes seamlessly. The candied fig and baked Camembert add a sophisticated sweetness and creaminess, making it ideal for foodies who love a rich and diverse eating experience. On the beverage side, the White Rabbit Matcha latte is an interesting concept that blends the nostalgic White Rabbit candy flavor with traditional matcha. However, it seems the white rabbit syrup was subtle or lacking, resulting in a predominantly milky and lightly matcha-flavored drink that may not fully meet expectations for those seeking a strong matcha kick or the candy’s sweetness. Despite this, it’s still a novel drink to try if you’re curious. From a personal perspective, visiting Bites and Brews feels like indulging in a cheat meal that satisfies both visual and taste senses. The presentation is Instagram-worthy, and the layers in the duck confit sandwich — including that perfectly oozy cloud egg — are memorable. The platter’s variety encourages sharing and sampling multiple flavor profiles in one sitting, which makes it great for food outings with friends who appreciate rich, intricate dishes. If you plan to visit, timing your visit during less busy hours might enhance your experience and allow you to savor each component without rush. Overall, if you love artisan sourdough sandwiches paired with creative and upscale brunch items, Bites and Brews is a recommended spot in Singapore’s vibrant food scene. Just be aware that some drinks like the White Rabbit Matcha may be hit or miss, but the unique menu definitely makes up for it.
