What do you think?
Having experienced a friends-with-benefits (FWB) relationship myself, I know how emotionally complex it can be, especially when the relationship spans years and involves someone who is married. It’s common to start developing feelings even if the initial agreement was clear, and the uncertainty can be overwhelming. In similar situations, it helped me to first acknowledge my own emotions honestly rather than dismissing them. Trying to rationalize that it can’t work because the other person is married only added to my confusion. It’s important to define personal boundaries and consider what you truly want for your emotional well-being. When the person you are involved with gains a new role at work and starts distancing themselves, it can feel like a sign of shifting priorities. Communication is key; I found it useful to have an open and calm conversation about where each of us stands. If the other person is interacting with someone else in a way that feels threatening, it’s natural to feel hurt or jealous, but it’s necessary to ask for clarity and honesty rather than assumptions. In my experience, repeatedly breaking up and reconciling can be draining. It’s okay to take time to reflect and decide if staying in this dynamic is truly healthy for you. Support from friends or a counselor can also provide perspective. Ultimately, if you’re confused and lost, as you mentioned, focusing on your own needs and setting clear emotional limits can help regain control. It’s tough when the situation seems unresolved, but prioritizing your own happiness and clarity is a strong step forward.
