Local Book Review 📖 ✨️

Recently finished "The NOT So Fairytale Story" by La’Trish Mack and whew… this book took me through every emotion. 📖🌙✨

⭐️ My Rating: 8.5/10

Genre: Drama / Romance / Young Adult Fiction

Mood: Emotional, intense, toxic love, healing, suspenseful

The story follows Harmony, a high school senior trying to survive the emotional weight of a toxic household while navigating relationships, grief, and growing up way too fast. What starts off feeling like a second-chance connection slowly unfolds into something darker, complicated, and honestly hard to put down.

What I loved most was how real the emotions felt. The book touches on family trauma, unhealthy relationships, vulnerability, and how easy it is to romanticize people from your past. Harmony’s character felt layered and believable, and I kept wanting her to choose herself every chapter. 😭

✨ Things I enjoyed: • The dramatic storytelling

• The emotional tension throughout the book

• The “not everything is a fairytale” message

• The mystery and unpredictability

• The cover art… absolutely beautiful

If you enjoy books with messy emotions, complicated romance, life lessons, and stories that feel a little too real sometimes… this might be your next read. 📚🖤

... Read moreReading "The NOT So Fairytale Story" truly immersed me in the challenging realities that many teens face today, especially those growing up in toxic environments. Harmony's story is a stark reminder of the complexities behind what might outwardly seem like an ordinary high school life. The narrative doesn’t shy away from exposing the raw and often harsh consequences of unhealthy family dynamics and how they echo through personal relationships. One aspect I found particularly compelling was how the story highlighted the ease with which people can romanticize their past, especially when dealing with unresolved emotional pain. Harmony’s struggle with this made her character feel incredibly relatable and human. It’s a cautionary tale about trusting charming ex-friends who may have changed in ways that aren’t immediately obvious. The suspense that builds as Harmony faces these difficult emotions, combined with the unfolding mystery about her friend’s true nature, kept me turning pages late into the night. The book’s dramatic storytelling paired beautifully with a message that life is rarely a perfect fairytale, which I think resonates with a wide audience, especially young adults. Moreover, the book’s cover art is not just striking but also sets the tone for the intense and emotional ride within. I appreciated how it visually encapsulates the mix of beauty and chaos intrinsic to the story. If you’re someone who enjoys Young Adult fiction that explores messy emotions and complicated relationships with authenticity and depth, this book might become one of your favorites. It opened up my eyes to the importance of self-healing and recognizing toxic patterns before they consume us entirely. This book has inspired me to be more mindful of how personal histories shape our present choices, a lesson I believe many will benefit from.
