After all the effort I put into my ancient base and dealing with those persistent villagers, I've started thinking about other structures that could complement it, and how to make sure they don't become new gathering spots for curious (and annoying) villagers! Adding a Charming Pergola to Your Base Speaking of exterior elements, a beautiful pergola can add so much charm to your base's garden or entrance. I'm seriously considering adding one near my ancient base entrance to give it a more grand, welcoming feel. You can construct one with simple wooden planks or even stone bricks to perfectly match an ancient aesthetic. To keep villagers from congregating under it and getting in your way, you could build it slightly elevated with stairs, or incorporate fencing around its base. A fun tip: using different colored stained glass panels as a roof on your pergola, similar to how I used light blue stained glass in my moat project, can create stunning lighting effects and add a pop of color to your build! Designing a Functional Fishing Dock or Hut My base features a rather impressive moat, which naturally got me thinking about fishing! A small, charming fishing dock or even a tiny, cozy fishing hut could be a perfect addition to any water-adjacent area. Imagine a snug spot with a chest for your catches, a crafting table, and a roof for shade during those long fishing sessions. When building a fishing dock, it’s crucial to make sure it's primarily accessible only by you. This could mean a trapdoor entry, a small gate, or even just a well-placed block that only players can easily step over. Villagers absolutely love water, so ensuring your fishing spot isn't easily accessible from their usual paths – or is surrounded by a low wall – will save you plenty of headaches. You definitely don't want a villager blocking your perfect cast! Creating a Simple Decorative Vending Machine For interior convenience or just a fun, modern touch within your base, a simple 'vending machine' build can be really cool. It doesn't have to be a complex redstone contraption; even a decorative one can add character and functionality. I'm thinking about placing one in a common area of my ancient base, perhaps disguised to look like an old-world dispenser for 'ancient snacks.' You can easily create one using a dispenser block, a button, and some item frames to label what it 'sells.' Just remember, villagers might try to 'use' it if they can get close enough, so consider its placement. Perhaps an elevated counter or a simple barrier will do the trick to keep their curious villager heads away from your valuable items. These smaller builds not only enhance your overall base but also offer fun, creative challenges. The key, as I learned first-hand with my moat and the pesky villagers, is always to think ahead about mob pathing! A truly well-designed build is one that anticipates where those 'villager heads' might pop up and how to gracefully (or drastically!) manage them. Happy building, and remember to always have a plan for those unexpected guests!
