Hobbies I struggle to keep and some that stayed

Saw a YouTube video about the 4 types of hobbies to have 1. Physical (e.g. sports) 2. Mental (e.g. writing, reading, learning new lang/skill) 3. Artistic (e.g. painting, photography) 4. Social (e.g. dance classes, board games club - I want to include hanging out at cafes with my friends haha).

I'm entering my 30s, with no kids and furkids so I do have a lot of free time to myself. Let me know what are your hobbies and what I should try or fun activities under Sg Culture Pass! 😊

... Read moreFrom my experience, keeping up with hobbies can be surprisingly tricky, even when you have free time. Running, for instance, sounds like an easy and free way to stay fit, but it’s often the everyday practicalities—like changing clothes or wearing contacts—that create a resistance to just get started. Accountability with a running buddy really helps, as we motivate each other and keep the momentum going. Social and artistic hobbies also come with unique challenges. Maintaining an OOTD fashion account was a fun idea, but I found it hard to balance taking good photos, especially faceless, aesthetic shots, with my daily routine. The morning rush and wanting to prioritize extra sleep over photo sessions really took a toll on consistency. Plus, the fashion content space feels crowded, making it hard for my photos to stand out. Crafty hobbies like crocheting or painting demand patience and focus, which I find tough to maintain for hours. Yet, the creative satisfaction of learning a new medium or making something by hand is undeniably rewarding. I’m considering learning some fundamentals in oil or watercolor painting, as I feel it might offer a fresh creative outlet. Reading is another hobby I struggle with. Setting realistic goals helps—dropping from 12 books a year to 5 has been a better approach. Despite a short attention span, I still cherish those moments of being completely absorbed in a book’s world. Sometimes it’s about accepting where you are and embracing small progress rather than perfection. The hobbies that have stuck for me are yoga and cooking. Yoga came naturally due to my flexibility and past sports experience, and I find that paying for classes strongly motivates me to attend regularly. Cooking started mainly as a necessity with fresh produce and delivery fees pushing me to cook more at home, but it quickly grew into something I enjoy and see as a hobby. Overall, hobbies that offer structure or have a clear motivator tend to last longer. Whether it’s a membership fee, a scheduled class, or a social commitment, these factors help overcome inertia. For those looking for new hobby ideas, especially in Singapore, exploring options available through the SG Culture Pass is a wonderful way to discover enjoyable activities across physical, mental, artistic, and social categories. What hobbies have you found hard to keep, and which ones have become part of your routine?
