Self love can make all the difference in how you navigate other relationships. That can be with a partner or your friends, and family. That said, here's a list of things that self love has done for me!
1. Helped me create boundaries in regards to those around me. It has helped better those relationships as well because making your boundaries known immediately and if they respect them then yay, but when you make them known and they still cross them then that's how I know when to withdraw.
2. Pushed me to hold myself more accountable. Before I even talk about what someone did to me, I look within on how we even got to that point. What could I have done differently? Accountability doesn't always mean you're at fault. Sometimes it's just about self reflection.
3. It helped my self esteem because I gave people too much power to other people when it came to how I viewed myself. No one controls my self-esteem but me.
4. I do things for me. I've kind of done that all my life, however I always was self conscious of looking too masculine because of my hobbies. Now, I could careless how I'm viewed as long as I'm doing what I enjoy then I'm good!
5. Most importantly, it made me more comfortable in my skin. I am me, I was made the way I am, and I love myself as is! Now, in terms of toxic traits (especially if my loved ones pointed them out to me) then yes I would self reflect but I will never change how I am for anyone.

One key benefit of self love is the ability to establish and maintain healthy boundaries. When you understand your values and limits, you communicate clearly what is acceptable in your relationships. This not only protects your mental and emotional well-being but also helps you identify who truly respects and supports you. Respecting your own boundaries encourages healthier interactions with friends, family, and partners.
Accountability is another powerful outcome of cultivating self love. Self reflection allows you to honestly assess situations and your role in them without harsh judgment. Holding yourself accountable means learning from experiences and growing rather than blaming others or yourself unnecessarily. It fosters maturity and emotional intelligence, which contribute to improved communication and problem-solving in relationships.
Building self esteem through self love is essential because it empowers you to control your self-image and confidence instead of relying on external validation. You start to value yourself independently of what others say or think, which relieves pressure and helps you embrace your true self. Enjoying your hobbies and interests without worrying about how you are perceived — like overcoming concerns related to looking masculine or feminine — is a great example of self love in action.
Feeling comfortable in your own skin is the heart of self love. Accepting yourself unconditionally, including both strengths and areas for improvement, creates a foundation for inner peace and resilience. While constructive criticism, especially about toxic traits, can be useful for personal growth, self love teaches you not to change just to please others but to evolve authentically.
