Grocery haul and Budgeting Hacks!

Me and my boyfriend’s grocery haul from BJs. We love BJs for bulk buying and snacks or any kind of name brand products that we do buy that aren’t a generic.

Hacks:

1. Me and my boyfriend have started doing bulk buying to try and save money. It takes some getting used to and learning to pace yourself and portion, but buying in bulks cuts down on the price per serving and if you can make the space that’s my number 1 recommendation. Big box stores like BJs Costco or Sam’s are great for this.

2. Do a pick up order. I don’t see a lot of people doing this? Maybe it’s just me but when I am physically walking around the store I am more likely to impulsively see something not on my list and be like oh I need this… GUILTY!

3. Make a list. Stick to the list.

4. Compare prices! It is shocking to see how much prices vary between stores. You may even be able to get a higher quality product for a lesser price if you look around. Especially check farmers markets or other local smaller markets they will sometimes run discounts to clear out stock.

5. Cook at home. Cooking at home as much as possible instead of eating out is MUCH cheaper. And when I say cook at home that doesn’t mean tv dinners! This leads into tip 6:

6. Cook from scratch. There are varying levels of this but the example I always use is bread. There are very simple and easy to make bread recipes that are great with much less preservatives. Most bakery items are also a massive markup because of the work that goes into making them. (Bread at Walmart for example is $2-$3 a loaf vs a 10lb bag of all purpose flour for 4.57 that can make multiple loaves).

7. Don’t cut out everything and go cold turkey. Make small adjustments a little bit at a time. We are trying to eat less processed food and eat out less, but just had a massive bulk buy of snack foods. We need splurge items and by having them available at home we don’t splurge on them when we are out or are feeling like a treat therefore we save by buying them in bulk. The groceries today will hopefully last us months.

I will probably be sharing some of my baking recipes soon too! I bake my own bread and make tortillas at home saves a bunch!

Let me know if you have any budgeting hacks I haven’t listed or any apps or coupons you recommend!

Always looking for discounts!

... Read moreGrocery shopping on a budget doesn't just save money; it also promotes healthier eating habits. Start by planning your meals for the week to reduce impulse purchases and food waste. Utilize a price comparison app to find the best deals available in your area, especially at local farmers' markets which often offer fresh produce at lower prices. Cooking from scratch is not only cost-effective but also allows you to control the ingredients in your meals, reducing preservatives and unhealthy additives found in processed foods. Consider using coupons and taking advantage of sales, especially on things you buy in bulk. For instance, purchasing non-perishable items during sales can lead to significant savings in the long run. Incorporating these budgeting strategies can help make your grocery shopping more efficient and enjoyable, allowing you to indulge occasionally without breaking the bank. Remember to explore apps that offer discounts or cash-back options as well, maximizing your savings on each shopping trip. Your wallet will thank you later!
