Understanding the concept of sweeps is crucial for traders who want to align themselves with smart money activities in the forex market. A sweep occurs when price moves to grab liquidity before reversing to continue the main trend. This action is often seen around key levels where stop-loss orders and pending orders accumulate. From my own trading experience, recognizing a sweep involves watching for quick price moves that 'clear out' these liquidity pools – this is the inducement phase. After the sweep triggers these stops, the price gives a confirmation, commonly through a break of structure (BOS), which signals the continuation of the trend. Identifying this sequence—Sweep, Inducement, Confirmation (BOS), and then targeting the move—is an effective way to enter trades with higher probability setups. In practical terms, when you observe a liquidity sweep on a higher timeframe, such as the 4-hour chart, look for the price to retest the area and confirm the movement by breaking the previous structure. This method helps avoid false entries and aligns your trades with institutional flow. Using sweeps in your strategy also encourages patience and discipline, as you wait for the market to provide a valid entry confirmation rather than chasing price prematurely. Over time, applying this approach can improve your risk-reward ratios and overall trading performance in forex markets.
