How Do You Talk About Magick?

I watched a review of the Simon Necronomicon and I found it very insightful and interesting, especially since I didn't have much experience or knowledge about it, particularly when it comes to the lore and cosmology. From what I understand it is a mix of western ceremonial magick, Samarian spirits, and Lovecraftian themes.

I find it difficult to put my thoughts on Magick into words, which is probably why I wrote a book about what exactly it is I'm referring to when I use the word Magick. Is it psychology, schizophrenia, myth/story?

What caught my attention from this review more than anything else was the way the speaker was able to talk about Magick in a way that's accessible, for me this is the hardest thing to do. I don't mean in the sense that I can't explain my reasoning or logic, I mean that I find it hard to talk about without referring to the underlying reasoning and logic.

It's the difference between explaining that sunny days are best spent outside vs explaining the mechanics of weather forecasting. For me it's easier to explain how the weather works, not what you should do in your free time on a sunny day.

But I'm working on it, and the review I watched was inspiring and helped me out my thoughts together.

In light of this, how can I approach talking about Magick, for myself, in a way that doesn't overcomplicate my thinking?

What i noticed is that the review only covers one layer of analysis, it's almost superficial. But maybe that is the secret. There is almost a familiarity that comes with superficiality, a type of sincerity even. It leaves space for the listener to intuitively connect to the experience that's being conveyed.

Instead of trying to fill the gaps in knowledge that might be necessary to fully understand, the reviewer lets the listeners intelligence and imagination fill in those gaps, making the audience, me or you, a part of the experience. It negates the teacher student dichotomy, replacing it with a curiosity curious dynamic that doesn't feel forced. Maybe the idea that good communicators "draw you in" is wrong, maybe they just leave enough space for us to feel comfortable approaching?

So what is Magick? Well, it's what magicians do when they connect one part of reality to another. They do work in two realities at once.

Does this answer satisfy my, and what I assume is your need for knowledge? Not really. But I don't think it has to. I think the value, the alchemical gold, isn't that it's the perfect answer. I think it's that it ignites the childlike curiosity within us, the same curiosity that drives us to try, to learn, and to grow, even if we don't fully understand how or why.

We're humans, it's our birthright.

It's what we do.
