Palo’s First 5 Days
Palo is a little Winter White Dwarf hammy. He came home on 01/06/26 and somehow immediately ran the place.
I knew he wasn’t shy the moment the handler lifted his hide and he fearlessly ran straight to the front of the tank to protest. From day one, Palo has been outgoing, friendly, and curious.
He welcomes my hands into his home like it belongs there. He bit me once and broke skin, but I think he thought I was food since I had just touched his bowl. He hasn’t done it since.
He learned to drink from a bowl almost instantly and completely ignores the bottle. He started making tunnels right away and even walked onto my palm on day one, which still surprises me.
Day two Palo spent more time hiding but still came out to use the wheel, especially after I added sprays later in the day. Days three and four were similar. Then day five, he stayed out for a long time. Running around, playing, using the wheel nonstop for hours, completely unbothered by how loud we were.
Most of the time, he comes out when he hears my name. Very nosey. Always listening.
He was a little scared when he met my kitty, Pepper, but quickly decided it wasn’t a big deal. He cared even less about my doggie, Daisy.
I’m still shocked by how quickly he’s adjusted to his new home and family. Right now my goals are simple. I want him to feel even more comfortable with my voice, learn his name, be okay with me lifting him, and eventually feel safe being transferred to his playpen.
Tiny hamster. Big personality. And already, it feels like he’s always been here! So precious!
