Nepali Gen Z! It’s more important now than ever to be posting, sharing your life, asking questions and making our voices be a strong presence in Nepal’s narrative! 🗣️
As a member of the Nepali Gen Z community, I've found it incredibly empowering to use platforms like social media to create an authentic narrative about our culture and experiences, especially when living abroad. Sharing daily moments, like exploring iconic places such as Harvard Square or enjoying local eats like falafel and smoothies, helps bridge the gap between our roots and our current lives. Beyond just lifestyle, it’s crucial that we leverage this visibility to engage in conversations about our homeland, its government changes, and the broader socio-political dynamics. For example, small actions like documenting a day in the life, including activities like morning runs, shopping in vibrant neighborhoods, or watching NBA playoffs, do more than entertain—they highlight the diversity and dynamism of Nepali Gen Z abroad. It reflects our adaptability and our passion for both preserving and evolving our identity. Using hashtags like #NepaliGenZ and #dayinmylife connects us with a broader community eager to support and amplify our stories. Moreover, growing up in different countries often means our families dream big for us, with aspirations tied to prestigious institutions like Ivy League schools. While not all of us attend them, visiting these places can be a cherished experience that connects us with our cultural and educational aspirations. Sharing these personal moments encourages others in the community to embrace their journeys and use their voices to shape conversations. Ultimately, the power of Nepali Gen Z lies in our ability to be visible, vocal, and vibrant—whether we are advocating for governmental change, celebrating cultural moments, or simply sharing a day in our lives. This collective presence can significantly influence perceptions and inspire future generations within Nepal and across the diaspora.
