Born 2000, But Not the Stereotype

I was born in 2000, so technically I’m Gen Z. But I’ve never really felt like I fit the version of Gen Z that people expect. I’ve always leaned more toward being professional, careful, and structured. Most days it’s just a plain shirt, no accessories, skinny jeans, and that’s it. No trends, no experimenting, just simple and safe.

Lately I’ve been hearing that I should “look more Gen Z,” so I decided to actually try. Baggy jeans, graphic tee, accessories, different silhouette. This outfit is me stepping outside what’s normal for me and seeing how it feels to lean into a generation I’m supposed to belong to, but never fully related to.

I think Gen Z gets boxed into one look or one mindset, but the truth is we’re all different. Some people are loud and expressive, some are creative and experimental, and some of us are quiet, disciplined, and focused. I might dress differently now, but at the core I’m still the same person. Professional, intentional, and careful with how I move through life.

Maybe this is Gen Z too, just a different version of it.

Not Dramatic. Not Lazy. Maybe ADHD.

The back of a person's head with hair in a bun is shown near a wall dispenser, with text stating, "this is a common stereotype we hear about: every mean girl becomes a nurse but every nurse isn't a mean girl."
Inside an elevator, text asks, "do you think all mean girls become nurse?" and shares the author's perspective on being a kind nurse while acknowledging the stereotype from personal patient experiences.
All Mean Girls Become Nurses
Let’s be honest we have ALL heard this phrase. As a nurse myself I get it tbh. I have encountered people who disregard pain, problems, and most commonly mental health and the somatic effect that come with it. I am someone who loves to listen to my patients and their stories. Even a validation o
