Many women over 40 face unique challenges when trying to build muscle, especially around gaining a bigger, toned butt or increasing arm strength. From my experience, it’s important to understand that progress demands consistent training, adequate protein intake, and patience. For instance, if you weigh around 57kg, aiming for sufficient protein daily — roughly 1.2 to 2 grams per kilogram of body weight — supports muscle growth and recovery. This means planning your meals around lean meats, dairy, legumes, or plant-based protein sources. Also, while it might be tempting to stick to light weights or train only sporadically, real muscle gain requires progressively challenging your body, like gradually increasing weights beyond 5kg when comfortable. Tracking your progress can be motivating: some people find it helpful to measure muscle growth, such as biceps size, similar to popular TikTok trends, but remember this is just one indicator. Finally, mindset makes a huge difference. In my 40s and near 50, embracing the no pain no gain mentality and committing to a well-structured workout schedule transformed my fitness journey. It’s definitely a sacrifice in time and effort, but for moms wanting results, the payoff is empowering and rewarding.
